Course Description

This course reviews 20th-century music history and contemporary music by focusing on five topics, each involving important and characteristic issues, repertories and composers. This semester's topics will be: Igor Stravinsky's life and works; the rise and fall of 12-tone music; experimental music; minimalism and post-minimalism; and the interactions between art, pop, and folk music.
