QUIZZES, FINAL EXAM,
PREPARATIONS, GRADING
Quizzes – The week after we finish a topic,
there will be a quiz in class on that topic.
Mostly listening / score ID-based, the quiz may include questions on the
readings and on the lectures.
Final exam – The final exam will consist of a
choice of essay questions on all five topics we covered during the semester.
Preparations – Every week when there is no quiz or
exam, a preparation will be due. The
preparations consist in a written paragraph or two in which you summarize and
comment on each assigned reading. Two fundamental questions will have to be
answered in the preps:
1) What’s the thesis of the reading?
2) Why was the reading assigned?
Preps
must turned in via e-mail according to the schedule indicated in the syllabus.
They are also due as a hard copy in
the following class. If you miss a class and you get a short-term leave slip, you
can turn in the hard copy of the prep the following class and still get some
credit for it. In any case, preps must be handed directly to the instructor: do
not leave them in the mailbox. Notice
that just the e-mail won’t do: in order to get credit for the preps, you need
to bring the hard copy in class.

Late and missing work – Missed tests cannot be made up.
However, if you are going to miss a class and you have a valid reason, you
should first inform me and then you should get a short-term leave slip. This

Please
fill the form out and turn it in to the Dean’s office with supporting
