Course Description

What do the lives of composers mean to performers and audiences? What insight (if any) can biography provide into a composer’s music? We will focus on three composers – Mozart, Schumann and Ives – reading and discussing excerpts from biographies by several authors. There will be a semester project on a composer of each student’s choice.
