MHL 757: Joseph Haydn: Life and Works

Course Description

The course considers Haydn as a man, as a composer and as a leading figure in the European Enlightenment. We will construct a picture of Haydn from contemporary letters, biographies, concert programs, reviews and poetry. We will listen to and study a selection of works ina variety of genres, including symphonies, operas, string quartets, piano sonatas and trios, masses and baryton trios.
