PREPARATIONS, QUIZZES, EXAMS, GRADING

Preparations – Every week when there’s no quiz or exam there will be a preparation. Most preparations involve reading about the assigned repertory and answering questions about those readings and the repertory. Preparations are due on Monday evenings via Email by 6 PM at the latest. I will read them and respond via Email by Wednesday. Then I’ll use your preparations as a basis for part of the class.

Quizzes – The week after we finish a topic, there will be a quiz in class on that topic. Most of the quiz will be listening and score ID. There will also be one question about the readings.

Final exam – The final exam will consist of a choice of essay questions on all five topics we covered during the semester.

Grading

Preps 45%

Quizzes 30%

Final 25%

Late work and make-ups – Preps that come in after Monday 6 PM will be graded down at 2 points per day. Missed quizzes cannot be made up unless you have a short term leave of absence for the day you missed. Short term leaves are normally granted only for significant professional opportunities, family death or medical emergencies. You can download the form at http://www.sfcm.edu/pdf/Short_Term_Leave_of_Absence_student-07nov01.pdf. Fill it out and turn it in to the Dean's office with supporting documentation. If you get a short term leave, I will schedule a make-up. I will also count late preparations as on time if you had a short term leave on the due date.
